Equities
There are three main job roles in the Equities Division: Traders, Sales Traders and Sales. Each sharesthe same training programs and attracts similar types of candidates.
Responsibilities

Traders
Equity traders take positions in specific markets using the firm’s capital to help clients perform their business effectively. Traders monitor the markets, corporate announcements, and other economic indicators as part of their trading strategies.
  • The trader’s primary role is to create markets for the securities that Nikko Citigroup deals with. This attracts vital liquidity in the markets, and traders can use opportunities to take positions using the firm’s capital.
  • Traders work with Sales staff and Sales Traders in order to create business, provide liquidity and maximize returns for our clients.
  • Traders are the final link in the transaction chain that begins with a client’s order and concludes with execution of the trade. Traders are often required to make split-second decisions and must therefore be aware of their market environments. They need to consider completing trades with the minimum impact on the market as well.

Sales Traders
Equity sales traders distribute equity securities to our institutional clients.
  • Sales traders begin their day with a morning meeting that includes a round-up of movements in world markets overnight. In the meeting, sales traders receive information from research analysts so that they can help our clients achieve their strategic investment goals.
  • Sales traders are the link between our clients and the trading desk. They quote a price to the client based on detailed knowledge of the sector and the market in which the client wishes to trade.
  • Sales traders also keep sales staff and clients informed on the latest market activities, company earnings results, profit warnings, large stock price movements and their market prospects. They relay this information to our clients, who make trade decisions based on that information.

Salespeople
Equity Sales helps our clients achieve better portfolio investment performance by providing a variety of services. They fully understand client investment strategies and deliver appropriate advice and services. They discuss investment ideas from our research analysts and then customize these ideas to fit their clients’ investment strategies, styles and objectives.
